Pyramid of the Great Jaguar at Tikal

Looking at the Pyramid of the Great Jaguar (154' tall built in 732 AD) from the top of the Temple of the Jaguar Priest (built 810 AD and 180' tall) at the Mayan ruins of Tikal in Guatemala.

It was a drizzly day as we climbed the pyramid to get this shot. Tikal was abandoned in 1450 and rediscovered in 1848.

These 2 pyramids are on each side of the Great Plaza. Tikal has 5 pyramids/temples spread out over the ruins.

Tikal is one of the largest cities and archaeological sites of the pre-Columbian Maya civilization in Mesoamerica. It is located in the Petén Basin region of northern Guatemala.
